Oklahoma law is particularly severe when it comes to punishment for sex crimes that involve children as the victims.  Anyone who has sexual relations with a child under the age of 16 or even makes an indecent proposal to such a child can be punished with at least three years behind bars in the State Penitentiary.  If the victim is less than 12 years old, the minimum prison time is increased to 25 years. An individual convicted of a sex crime against a child must register as a sex offender.

Internet Sex Crimes

In response to the continued growth of Internet use and ever-increasing avenues to access the Web, Oklahoma has enacted a specific law for internet sex crimes.  Any person who facilitates or solicits sexual conduct with a minor through the use of communication technology can be punished with a fine up to $10,000 and up to 10 years imprisonment in the state penitentiary.
