Question: Can you discuss some of the various gun crimes that a person may be charged with in Oklahoma?
Answer: There are a lot of gun crimes which a person can be charged with in Oklahoma. One of the most common gun crimes that we see is felon in possession of a firearm. This occurs when someone has been convicted of a felony at some point in their lives and they are later found to be either in possession of a gun or riding in a car with a gun. You don’t necessarily have to have it in your hands to be considered in possession of a gun. Other gun crimes which we see include possession of a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol; we see reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony. Of course robbery offenses are only made worse when a firearm is used. We also see shooting with intent to kill. Some of the less common ones that we see are defacing a serial number of a firearm or providing a firearm to an insane or incompetent person.
